Occupational fatalities from falls remain one of the top safety risks and on the Top 10 OSHA Violations list year after year. Training employees to identify fall hazards and deciding how best to protect workers is the first step in reducing or eliminating fall hazards.

A competent person according to OSHA is a designated person with sufficient experience and/or knowledge to recognize fall hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and who has the ability to shut down the worksite until any hazards are corrected.
